LIVESTREAMED EVENT: Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall's annual Bakers Creek Memorial Observance _ 10 a.m. EDT Monday, Jun. 14 and 12 a.m. AEST Tuesday, Jun. 15, 2021
To commemorate the 78th anniversary of the air crash at Bakers Creek, near Mackay, Queensland, Australia, that took the lives of 40 Army Air Corps service members during World War II on June 14, 1943. The Bakers Creek monument, a gift from Australia dedicated to the lives of those lost, was placed at the Joint Base due to its close proximity to Arlington National Cemetery. The ceremony was live-streamed for all to view.
The ceremony included remarks by the Ambassador to the Embassy of Australia in Washington D.C., the Honorable Arthur Sinodinos; the Executive Director of the Bakers Creek Memorial Association, Dr. Robert Cutler; and the President of the Washington D.C. Sub-Branch of the Returned and Services League of Australia, Mr. Ross Crunkhorn.
We hope you can view with us to pay tribute to the 40 victims of the Bakers Creek tragedy – to remember and honor these brave Americans who made the ultimate sacrifice.
